PTT Exploration & Production International (PTTEPI) has issued a Letter of Intent to Award (LOI) to Energy Drilling, which secures high specification tender barge rig EDrill-2 for a firm term of 18 months with an option period of 30 months. The Zawtika (Myanmar) development drilling campaign consists of around sixty-seven wells to be drilled from ten wellhead platforms in water depths of up to 160mtr. Commencement date is set for mid-December 2015 with EDrill-2 currently undertaking pre-mobilization inspections and third party equipment installations.
EDrill-2 wins out over several newer semi-tenders competing for this project by virtue of its ability to drill and rig move efficiently in difficult metocean conditions. EDrill-2s light-weight Drilling Equipment Set (DES) erects in four lifts and is handled by a large radius crane at increased standoff distances thereby allowing the tender barge to orient favourably in prevailing sea states and to minimize vessel motions for quick and safe rig moves.
